Te Dealey Class Destroyer Escorts were the first escort ships built for the US Navy after World War II. They were slightly larger and faster than the built before them, but had a relatively short life span due to the unreliability of the drone helicopter they carried.  Their armament included twin mounted 3 inch (76mm) guns, anti-submarine (ASW) rockets, a depth-charge rack, and six depth-charge launchers. Later improvements removed the ASW rockets and replaced them with nuclear-capable anti-submarine rockets and torpedo mounts that fired homing torpedoes. They were decommissioned in 1972 - 1973 and replaced by the Knox Class. For more detailed information and photos of some of the Dealey Class destroyer escorts we recommend that you visit the Newport Dealeys at www.newportdealeys.org

Please note that on 30 June 1975, all existing Destroyer Escorts (DEs) were re-classified as Fast Frigates (FFs).  We will use the correct designation and configuration for your drawing based on your years of interest.  All ships originally built as DEs will be listed in this category, from newest to oldest.  Those that were still in service and re-classified as FFs will also be listed in the Frigates category.  If you have any questions, email us, or give us a call at 609-264-5256.

All of our ship and aircraft profile drawings are by George Bieda, a retired US Navy Captain with over 27 years of service.  George calls upon his vast knowledge and experience, plus an extensive reference library to compose historically accurate drawings. Each drawing is individually numbered and digitally signed by the artist, making them a one of a kind item.

Each of our drawings represents a specific time period in the ship's life. That's why we ask for your "Years with Interest" Our artist will configure the ship's profile and stats to conform to that time period.  A range of years provides sufficient information.

Our profile drawings are printed with high quality commercial giclee equipment on heavy weight, acid-free, archival stock, using inks with lightfastness ratings of over 100 years when displayed properly. Each drawing is individually numbered and digitally signed by our artist.

To make your drawing truly unique, we will add up to 3 lines of personalization to the drawing (25 characters max per line). You can use all three lines, or just one or two, the choice is yours! There is no extra charge for this service! If you have any questions about personalization, check out our suggestions on our "Personalization Tips" page, or phone us at 609-264-5256.

Please keep in mind that the images shown here are examples of just some of the drawings we have completed for our customers.  We can produce drawings of virtually any ship from any time frame from WW II to the present.  If you are unable to find your ship, please let us know at info@usmilitaryart.com, or by phoning us at 609-264-5256.
