"Escorting the Harriet Lane" by Karen Loew

Escorting the Harriet Lane by Karen Loew

After the terrible events of September 11, 2001, the Coast Guard was called into service at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, which was used by the U.S. as a holding area for suspected Al Qaeda and Taliban members.  This work epitomizes the Coast Guard's role at GITMO, "No vessel enters or departs from the port without a USCG escort" - not even the Coast Guard's own cutter - Harriet Lane!
