The Ling-Temco-Vought A-7 Corsair II

The Ling-Temco-Vought A-7 Corsair II was a carrier-based subsonic light attack aircraft procured by the US Navy to replace its aging A-4 Skyhawks.  It was first deployed in 1967, and saw extensive service during the Vietnam War.  Variants included the A-7A, A-7B, A-7C, A-7D (flown by the US Air Force),  A-7E, and A-7K (also US Air Force) with each variant representing upgrades to the power plant, avionics, and/or  weapons carried by the aircraft.  Retirement of the A-7 Corsair II by the Navy began in the mid 1980s, being replaced by the F/A 18 Hornet.  Two squadrons flying the A-7 participated in Operation Desert Storm.  Upon their return from this action in May 1991, these last remaining A-7s were retired.
