Carrier Air Wing Deployment Prints Carrier Air Wings, consisting of approximately 2,500 personnel, and 60 - 65 aircraft, are U.S. Navy operational units consisting of several squadrons of fixed and rotary wing aircraft. The squadrons that comprise an Air Wing have different but complementary missions, and provide most of the striking power and electronic warfare capabilities of the Carrier Strike Group to which they are attached. Each deployment can last six months or more, and during that time, the Air Wing integrates with the carrier in which it is embarked. There are currently 10 Carrier Air Wings maintained by the Navy. Mads Bangso has produced composite drawings of some of these units at the request individual units, or unit members. We are very pleased to be able to offer them here. Check back often as we will update our offerings as Mads completes them. The newer ones will be listed at the top of this page, so scroll down to see the older deployments. If you don't see yours here, contact us about asking Mads to put one together for your unit! Carrier Air Wing 9 2009 Deployment Print by Mads Bangso Carrier Air Wing 9 deployed with USS John C. Carrier Airwing 3 2008 Deployment Print by Mads Bangso
After extensive research, and lots of help from the members of CVW-3 supplying photos and information, Mads Bangso has created this great print showing aircraft from all of the squadrons that made up the airwing that was deployed in USS Harry S. Truman CVN 75 from 2007 through June 2008. The print was specifically developed for the men and women that serve in CVW-3 as a memento of their deployment, but it turned out so well, we are making it available to the general public. Click on the image for a larger view, then use your browser's BACK button to return here. To produce the Carrier Airwing 3 Deployment print shown above, Mads had to first draw birds from each squadron. Three of the squadrons have expressed interest in having their own squadron prints. Again, these turned out too good to limit their availability, so we are offering them here, also. |
