The F-105 Thunderchief

"Bringin' It Downtown" by Mark Karvon

Known affectionately as the "Thud", the F-105 Thunderchief was designed to deliver a nuclear payload by flying low and fast. At low altitude, nothing could outrun the "Thud". The F-105  was used extensively during the war in Vietnam as aBringin' It Downtown by Mark Karvon fighter/bomber. In terms of bombs delivered on target, she was second only to the venerable B-52. Later versions of the F-105 Thunderchief had two seats and were utilized on Wild Weasel missions to detect and destroy enemy surface-to-air missile sites. In "Bringin' It Downtown," artist Mark Karvon depicts two F-105D models flying low and fast with a centerline bomb load destined for Hanoi.  Click on the thumbnail for a larger view, then click your browser's BACK button to return here.
