The U.S. Navy's Northrop Grumman-built F-14
Tomcat was without equal among Free World fighters during its heyday. It
was a supersonic, twin engine, variable-sweep wing, two-seat aircraft capable of
both precision ground strikes, and air superiority/fleet air defense missions.
Its multiple tasks of navigation, target acquisition, ECM, and weapons
employment were divided between the pilot and RIO (Radar Intercept Officer).
With a top speed of more than Mach 2, it had an operational ceiling of 50,000
ft. The Tomcat was the featured aircraft in the movie Top Gun.
The F-14 Tomcat entered service in
December of 1970. The VF-31 Tomcatters and the VF-213 Black Lions were the
last two squadrons flying the Tomcat. It was officially retired on 22 SEP
2006 at NAS Oceana.

below are the three different models of Tomcats from three different

Mads Bangso also produces drawings of the F-14 Tomcat. Below are three
examples of his work, featuring the F-14A designation. All models are
available though, in three different configurations, "In Flight," "On the Cat,"
and his newest, latest, and (we think) greatest, the 3-D perspective
configuration. Click on any of the images for a larger view, than click
