Anchor Bay Great Ship Replicas by Harbour Lights Lightship Overfalls From 1820 to 1952, there were 179 lightships built by the U.S. Lightship Service. LS Overfalls LV-118 (also designated WAL-539) was built in 1938 and served until 1972. After decommissioning, OVERFALLS was donated to the Lewes, DE Historical Society in 1973, and is on display there as a museum ship. Lightships were named for their duty stations, so the same ship could carry different names during its service life. OVERFALLS served as Lightship Cornfied from 1938 to 1957, while stationed in Long Island Sound near Cornfield Pt. CT, and the mouth of the Connecticut River. She was Lightship Cross Rip while serving off Cross Rip Shoal in Nantucket Sound from 1958 - 1962, and Lightship Boston from 1962 - 1972 while serving as a reference mark for Boston Harbor. Interestingly, OVERFALLS, never served at that location! This issue of 2,500 was offered in 2008. A terrific addition to any collection, or to remind you of your years served aboard!
