To the members of the Zuni Maritime Foundation, the staff at US Military
Art says "Welcome Aboard!"
With the assistance of the Foundation, we've put together an entire page of
items of interest to members, supporters, friends and family. You can
shop here and aid the Foundation at the same time. We have pledged a
portion of each sale to the Foundation to help with the refurbishing and upkeep
of "The Mighty Z."
We start off here with a profile drawing of the USS Zuni ATF 95.
Click on the thumbnail to view a larger version of the picture, then click your
brower's BACK button to return to this page. The drawing is
available in two sizes, framed and unframed. You can chose between a black
or gray frame. Both look terrific with this drawing! You can add up
to 3 lines of personalization to the print to really make it unique.
In 1946, USS Zuni was decommissioned by the Navy and transferred to the Coast
Guard. Soon after, she was commissioned as the USCGC Tamaroa WAT 166.
She reported to her duty station at New York, NY. Her duties included law
enforcement, weather patrols, oceanography, International ice patrols, and
search and rescue operations.
The Coast Guard redesignated the TAMAROA as WATF in 1956,
the year sheparticipated
in two high-profile operations. She assisted in the recovery of bodies and
debris from the crash of a Venezuelan Airlines Super Constellation off Asbury
Park, NJ. Later that year, along with the USCGC OWasco, she
escorted the Stockholm to New York Harbor after the collision with the
Italian luxury line Andrea Doria (which sank off Nantucket Island, MA)
The designation of the Tamaroa was changed once again in 1966, this time to a
medium endurance cutter. She remained USCGC Tamaroa WMEC 166 until being
decommissioned in 1994. All three version can be ordered
below.
