The USCG Barque Eagle WIX 327 is "America's Tall Ship," and the Coast Guard's training vessel.  The ship was built by Blohm and Voss Shipyard, Hamburg, Germany, and was commissioned Horst Wessel in 1936.  She was taken as a war prize by the U.S.  at the end of World War II.

On May 15, 1946, the ship was commissioned into the Coast Guard as the Eagle.  She is home-ported at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, and is the only operational commissioned sailing vessel in the U.S. maritime services. In addition to her regular crew of 12 officers and 38 enlisted, the Eagle carries 175 cadets and instructors from the Academy.  All cadets will sail aboard the Eagle at one time or another during their four years at the Academy.
