This painting depicts the USCGC Red Birch WLM 687 performing her primary function, aids to navigation (ATON).  She is shown maintaining the Star Spangled Buoy, which is located in Baltimore Harbor, marking the spot from which Francis Scott Key wrote The Star Spangled Banner.
